Jerry waited outside the church entrance in the sun of a
cloudless sky. Hearing the song, “My Redeemer Lives” and witnessing the drama
and dance, reminded Jerry that he was not without hope, not without a future, and
not without a destiny. He knew that the same power that raised Jesus from the
dead was within him. The Voice that he heard so clearly after the lightning
that did not bring death, but rather, a new life, rang through his mind as
though he was there at that moment standing in the street, his body radiating
brilliance.
You
have received the power of My Spirit. You will be My witness wherever you go.
How you live matters much, even more than your words. Turn from you
hypocritical ways that turn people away from Me. Receive Me as your First Love
and you will be a new creation, a new man. Your life is a witness to the world
about Me.
The last of the Easter crowd spilled out of the
church. And then, there she was, still wearing the full-length white dress,
billowed with a petticoat, looking as graceful on the sidewalk as she did on
stage. Her smile beamed. Her ruddy glow made her look on fire. She stepped
quickly to the side towards him and took his hand.
“I’m so happy to see you here today. What did
you think?”
“Speechless. Hit me right here.” Jerry pounded
his chest and looked into Christina’s eyes. Her dance and the song that surrounded
it filleted his heart wide open. He was feeling the warmth of the Holy Spirit
filling his heart. Watery eyes and a lump in his throat, God had opened Jerry’s
heart to Jesus, and likewise, opened his heart to his newfound friend. He felt
he already knew her spirit intimately well.
“Take a walk with me?”
“Oh, I’d love to, Jerry.” Her smile beamed again,
then slackened. “Oh, but I’m meeting Eva . . . ” She glanced at her watch.
“Right now actually.” She looked up and down the street. “There’s her car.” She
pointed. “She must be—”
“Christina!” Eva called and waved from the curb,
mingling with the remnant of the crowd.
She turned to Jerry. “I want to hear Adera sing.
She’s my housemate, and she’s performing an Ethiopian Christian song at the
Campus Crusade Easter Celebration on campus. Can I meet you after?”
“Sure thing. I was hoping to relax by Swan Lake
and talk. Want to meet me there?”
“Thanks, Jerry. I’ll be there.”
